The Long Beach Depot for Creative ReUse in the Long Beach Arts district can be a valuable resource for our Art majors.
It is a business on Elm street filled with an ample supply of discarded art & craft supplies including Synthetic leather strips, cardboard & foam cutouts, ribbon, yarn, tile, wood, glass and metal scraps, bottles, fabric pieces, zippers, misprint pens and pencils, old frames and more. They specialize in Overruns, Samples, Misprints, Scraps, Overstocks, Millends, Pieces and Discards. They also have a FREE exchange items to help inspire your creative reuse ideas. FREE supplies are available for for students who are willing to teach an art class with reused materials, along with a list of local teachers willing for your participation.

Career Exploration Workshops
One of keys to your art school education is finding a good fit for you in the industry of Fine Arts. You have an idea of what you want to do, now, how to make a career of it that would suit you and your personallized interests?
With this question in mind, a special set of workshops have been pulled together with you in mind.
The Career Exploration Workshops are designed to help students find careers that could be a good fit for them. Each workshop uses a different career assessment. Students may attend any one workshop or all four in any sequence. (Attending all four will enable students to complete assessments of their interests, personality, values, and skills, as well as an orientation to online tools and the Career Resource Library for their use in exploring careers. Attending just one workshop will address one of these aspects of career exploration.)
All workshops are offered free of charge to CSULB students, but they must reserve a space in advance. Instructions to RSVP and complete the online assessments prior to the workshop are included in the attached flyer.
Please seriously consider utilizing these powerful tools to success.

Join us for a special Soundwalk edition of 3rdThurs, featuring performances by Double Blind and Julia Holter.
Double Blind, an improvising ensemble with improvised membership, will perform a live, improvised interpretation of their latest project, "Wounded Speaker," recently released on mprntbl.com. Participants scheduled to appear include Glenn Bach, MLuM (Michael Raco-Rands and Marco Schindelmann), David Nadal, Joseph Richard Negro, Matt Pogue, and smgsap (shea M gauer & scott A peterson).
Julia Holter is a Los Angeles-based musician who specializes in creating homemade recordings out of casios, microkorgs, harmoniums, bells, and alta vista translations. She is a frequent performer of experimental music in the Los Angeles area, both as a Cal Arts Composition MFA student and as a member of pop label Human Ear Music.
Plus, we'll be screening past Soundwalk videos all night!

This is just a short recap of what went down during our first meeting this semester:

We kicked it off with a good turn out and a lot of new faces, though I don't think we plan on holding it again around that time due to class scheduling interference. Pizza was present while we explained some of the advantages of being within this organization. The main reason: we're AWESOME! and you want to be networked with awesome people that will help you out with opinions, opportunities, jobs, work, parties, school and laughs.

Rebecca, Jessica, Nicole, Vishal, Spencer and Chris Smith...
When you see us around, say hi...ask us when the next meeting is, what we're up to, and what we had for lunch. We're all friendly faces! People who are new, don't be timid about taking to us. We're here the same reason you are: to make friends, have fun, and make work.

BFA Portfolio Viewing Sept 25 - This is the chance to see portfolios that were good enough to get into the program. People are invited from all over, no matter what major, it's a great chance to see the cream of the crop - I can't convey how helpful this was last semester for a lot of people.
Sequoia Gallery Show Oct 5 - A gallery spurred from our summer trip. Get a taste of our trips, our work, our gallery system - gallery openings are one of the best things about being a student here at Long Beach State
LBC Art Walk Nov 8th - always fun, we'll talk about the best way to participate and have fun, later on
The SPE Convention Nov 13-16 - There's so much info about this that i'll post a separate thing... it promises to be the main event this semester, and looks like it'll be one hell of a grand road trip to San Fran for one of the best Conventions in the USA, regarding photography.
Student Holiday Sale - Dec 5th - Make some money for xmas!
